Where Does The NVQ Assessment Take Place?

All of the NVQ assessment is done at your place of work. One of our assessor team will come out to you and observe you while you work. This is great because it means you will not have to take any time off and will not lose any pay.

How Long Does It Take To Complete An NVQ?

Exactly how long the whole process takes will depend on a number of factors such as the NVQ you are doing and your payment method.

What Is Required Before I Take The NVQ in Carpentry?

Although there are no formal requirements we strongly recommend that you have the skills required to pass the individual units you will be sitting before you apply.

What Is Involved In The Carpentry NVQ?

To pass you will have to prove to the assessor that your have the skills required to pass both the mandatory units and your chosen optional unit.

Site Carpentry NVQ Level 2 (Show All Units)

You will be assessed on your skills and competence in the following mandatory units:

  • Conforming to General Safety in the Workplace
  • Conforming to Efficient Working Practices in the Workplace
  • Moving and Handling Resources in the Workplace

You must also choose one of the following optional units:

  • Installing First Fixing Components in the Workplace
  • Installing Second Fixing Components in the Workplace
  • Erecting Structural Carcassing Components in the Workplace
  • Maintaining Non-structural Carpentry Work in the Workplace
  • Setting Up and Using Circular Saws in the Workplace

Timber Frame Erection NVQ Level 2 (Show All Units)

You will be assessed on your skills and competence in the following units:

  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  • Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
  • Erecting Timber Roof Structures in the Workplace
  • Erecting Timber Walls and Floors in the Workplace
  • Installing Supplementary Timber Frame Fixings and Features in the Workplace
  • Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace
  • Slinging and Signalling the Movement of Loads (Secondary Role) in the Workplace

Site Carpentry NVQ Level 3 (Show All Units)

You will be assessed on your skills and competence in the following mandatory units:

  • Installing First Fixing Components in the Workplace
  • Installing Second Fixing Components in the Workplace
  • Confirming Work Activities and Resources for an Occupational Work Area in the Workplace
  • Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships in the Workplace
  • Confirming the Occupational Method of Work in the Workplace

You must also choose one of the following optional units:

  • Erecting Structural Carcassing Components in the Workplace
  • Erecting Complex Structural Carcassing Components in the Workplace
  • Maintaining Non-structural and Structural Components in the Workplace
  • Setting Up and Using Fixed or Transportable Woodworking Machinery in the Workplace
  • Setting Up and Using Fixed or Transportable Metalworking Machinery in the Workplace

What If I Fail Units In The Carpentry NVQ?

If you fail to achieve the required credits to complete the Carpentry NVQ, you may be reassessed and/or take additional units to obtain the required amount of credits and prove your competence in your given field.

Which Health, Safety & Environment Test Do I Take?

Included in the price of a Construction NVQ with Construction Site Skills is a Health, Safety & Environment Test. Once this is complete you will be fully qualified for a CSCS Card.

Carpenters can take the Operative CSCS Health, Safety & Environment Test.

After Taking The Carpentry NVQ, What CSCS Card Will I Be Eligible For?

Level 2 Carpentry NVQ

After taking the Level 2 Carpentry NVQ you will be qualified to apply for a Blue CSCS Card. To get a Blue CSCS Card click here to Apply for a Blue CSCS Card.

Level 3 Carpentry NVQ
